We use the drain-cleaning equipment that fits the clog, the pipe, and where the line can be reached.
01
How do I know if the main sewer line is clogged?
Look for trouble at several drains: toilets gurgling, water moving between drains, or a basement floor drain rising when water is used elsewhere.
The main sewer line carries wastewater from the property. When it is blocked, symptoms can appear in different rooms because those drains connect farther downstream.
One isolated slow sink usually points closer to that drain. A whole-property pattern should be treated as a possible main-line clog.
- More than one drain is slow or blocked
- A toilet gurgles when a sink or washer drains
- Water rises in a tub or basement floor drain
- The blockage returns after previous cleaning
- Water use anywhere makes the lowest drain worse
02
How do we clean a main sewer line?
We access the sewer line through a cleanout or drain and use drain-cleaning equipment to break through or remove the blockage.
Cable equipment opens many main-line clogs. Hydro jetting flushes grease, sludge, and widespread buildup from a pipe that can safely handle high-pressure cleaning.
If sewage is actively backing up, stop using water before service. Continued use sends more wastewater toward the lowest drain.
03
Why does a main sewer line keep clogging?
A main-line clog can return when roots, buildup, foreign material, or damaged pipe keeps catching debris and slowing wastewater.
Opening the line gets it flowing again, but the material removed during cleaning may point to a larger problem. A camera inspection can show visible roots, shifted joints, cracks, breaks, or areas holding water once the line is clear enough to see.
Cleaning does not repair structural pipe damage. If the camera shows damage, the pipe may need a separate repair.
04
Can tree roots block a sewer line?
Yes. Roots can enter through a crack, loose joint, or other opening, then grow inside the sewer line and catch passing debris.
Recurring main-line clogs, gurgling toilets, and lower-drain backups can occur when roots narrow the pipe. Root material recovered during cleaning or seen on camera is stronger evidence than symptoms alone.
Cutting or jetting roots can reopen the sewer line, but it does not seal the damaged area where the roots entered.
05
When can hydro jetting help a main line?
Hydro jetting removes heavy grease, sludge, and buildup from a main sewer line that can safely handle high-pressure cleaning.
A cable may be enough for a clog in one spot. Jetting flushes material from more of the pipe wall. Before jetting, we consider the condition of the pipe and how the line can be reached.
Specialized jetting may remove some root growth, but root removal does not repair the opening in the pipe.
06
When should we inspect the main line with a camera?
A camera inspection is useful when the main line keeps clogging, cleaning brings back roots, or the line still does not flow as expected.
The camera can show visible debris, roots, shifted joints, cracks, breaks, and low areas holding water. It cannot see through a solid blockage or dark standing water, so we may need to clear the line first.

Questions people ask
What is main line drain cleaning?
Main line drain cleaning removes a blockage from the sewer line that carries wastewater away from the property. It is different from clearing one nearby sink, tub, or shower drain.
Can a main sewer clog affect every drain?
Yes. Because drains throughout the property connect to the main line, a blockage there can cause slow drainage, gurgling, or backups in several rooms.
Does clearing a sewer line fix broken pipe?
No. Cleaning removes the clog and restores flow when possible; it does not repair cracked, collapsed, shifted, or otherwise damaged pipe.
Can tree roots cause recurring sewer clogs?
Yes. Roots can grow through openings in a sewer pipe, catch debris, and block the line again after temporary clearing. Removing the roots does not repair the opening where they entered.
Should a recurring main-line clog be inspected?
A camera inspection is worth considering when the same main sewer line keeps clogging, cleaning brings back roots, or the line still drains poorly after the clog is removed.
