  1. 1

    Tell us what’s backed up

Sink, toilet, shower, floor drain, or several drains? Tell us what you see and when it started.

  2. 2

    We’ll find the problem

We identify whether one drain is clogged or the blockage is in a shared pipe or main sewer line.

  3. 3

    Get the line flowing again

We use the drain-cleaning equipment that fits the clog, the pipe, and where the line can be reached.

01

What should I do if sewage is backing up?

Stop flushing toilets and running water, avoid direct contact with sewage, keep the area isolated, and call for drain service.

Pause showers, sinks, dishwashers, washing machines, and toilets. When the main line is clogged, water used elsewhere can return through a basement floor drain, tub, toilet, or another low opening.

Do not add drain chemicals to standing wastewater. Do not open a cleanout if pressure or a large spill may be present. Tell the drain cleaning team about any product already used.

  • Stop water use throughout the property
  • Keep children and pets away from wastewater
  • Move dry belongings only when it is safe
  • Note which drains are backing up or gurgling
  • Request service before testing the drains again

02

Why is water coming up through my basement floor drain?

The basement floor drain is often the lowest opening in the system, so it may be the first place wastewater appears when the main sewer line is blocked.

If the water rises when a toilet flushes, the washing machine drains, or someone uses a sink or shower, the clog is downstream from those connections.

A floor drain can also clog by itself. When every other drain works normally and household water use does not change the backup, the problem may be limited to the floor drain.

03

What are the warning signs of a main-line sewer backup?

Several drains backing up together, toilets gurgling, water moving between drains, and wastewater rising at the lowest drain are common main-line warning signs.

One isolated slow sink usually points closer to that drain. Problems across different rooms or levels are stronger evidence of a shared pipe or main sewer blockage.

Stop using water if the lowest drain rises when water runs anywhere else in the property.

04

What causes a sewer backup?

Roots, grease, debris, foreign objects, heavy buildup, and damaged pipe can all block a sewer line and force wastewater back into the property.

We clear the blockage to reopen the line. If the problem keeps returning or cleaning brings back root material, a sewer camera can show visible conditions inside the pipe.

Clearing the clog does not repair cracked, collapsed, shifted, or otherwise damaged pipe. Pipe repair is a separate service decision.

05

How do we clear a sewer backup?

We find the blockage, clear the line, and get wastewater flowing away from the property again.

Cable cleaning opens many sewer blockages. Hydro jetting washes heavy buildup from a line that can safely handle it. When a backup keeps returning, camera inspection can show visible trouble after the pipe is clear enough to see.

We use what the drains are doing and what comes back during cleaning to decide whether the line needs anything beyond clearing the clog.

06

What should I do after the drain line is opened?

Clean and sanitize any area touched by wastewater, and watch for slow drains, gurgling, or other signs that the blockage is returning.

Opening the sewer line restores the drain path. Cleaning contaminated surfaces, removing damaged materials, and restoring the space are separate from drain and sewer cleaning.

If the same line blocks again, camera inspection can look for visible roots, buildup, or pipe damage.

Clear answers

Questions people ask

Is a sewer backup an emergency?

Yes when sewage is entering living or working space, an overflow is active, or important drains and toilets cannot be used. Stop using water and call for drain service instead of continuing to test the drains.

Why did sewage come up through the basement drain?

A basement drain is often among the lowest openings in the drainage system. When the main sewer line is blocked, wastewater may rise there before it reaches higher drains.

Can I keep using water if only the basement drain is backing up?

Stop using water if another sink, toilet, shower, dishwasher, or washing machine makes the basement drain rise. Continued water use can add to a main-line backup.

Why are several drains backing up at once?

Several drains can back up together when they share a clogged pipe farther downstream. The lowest open drain often shows the problem first because wastewater cannot move past the blockage.

Will cleaning prevent every future sewer backup?

Cleaning can remove the current clog and restore flow, but the problem can return if roots, buildup, damaged pipe, or another condition remains.
